歌詞

Yeah Some places never leave you Nobody left ’cause they hated this place Nobody ran, nobody walked away We went searching for somewhere to live But part of our hearts still lives here We got the mountains, we got the land Rice in the fields, old homes still stand Time moved on, but these memories remain And I know I'll see this place again Granddad cut cedar straight off the hill Built this house with his hands and his will Grandma out front with dirt on her palms Growing our food right next to the farm Spring came around, everybody planted Fall came down, everybody harvested Father to son, then son to child That's how this place survived for a while Rice on the table, wood for the flame Roof over our heads with the family name We didn't need much from the outside world Everything we needed was right here But time don't stop for an old hometown New roads got built and they all led out Kids went looking for jobs and dreams And somewhere along the way They stopped coming back Nobody meant to leave it behind Nobody knew it'd be the last time We thought these lights would always shine We thought we'd always have more time Nobody left ’cause they hated this place Nobody ran, nobody walked away We went searching for somewhere to live But part of our hearts still lives here We got the mountains, we got the land Rice in the fields, old homes still stand Time moved on, but these memories remain And I know I'll see this place again Fifty rooftops, but the lights stay low See a kid outside, maybe visiting home Used to hear 'em running all over these roads Now those same kids got kids of their own "You wanna inherit? Then live right here" "You wanna live here? Then build a career" Where's the work? Man, nobody knows Farm that rice or pack up and go And now the conversations changed with time Not "Who's taking over?" but "How do we close?" Which house is next? Everybody knows Everybody's watching how the first one goes Main house, storehouse, rooms out back Rice fields, mountains, acres of land Once every piece was a way to survive Now every piece needs somebody's life Funny, isn't it? We got a house We got land We got water We can grow food We got almost everything Except people A hundred and eighty years in these walls How many names? Man, nobody knows How many dinners, how many fights? How many children slept here at night? You can tear down a house in a couple of days But you can't tear memories out the same way Everybody says, "You gotta preserve it" But memories alone can't maintain it One day the final porch light dies Grass takes over, roads lose their lines Maybe this name disappears from the map But you can't erase the lives that it had No You can't erase that So if the lights go out someday If these old walls all fade away I'll close my eyes and I'll still see Every piece of what this place gave me NOBODY LEFT 'CAUSE THEY HATED THIS PLACE NOBODY LOST, NOBODY FAILED TIME JUST TURNED ANOTHER PAGE BUT IT CAN'T TAKE THESE MEMORIES AWAY Homes may fall and fields may fade Someday no voices will call out these names BUT THE MOUNTAINS REMAIN AND THE RIVERS STILL RUN AND SPRING WILL RETURN LIKE IT ALWAYS HAS DONE When there's nobody left around The cedar trees will still move in the wind And everything we were back then Will live somewhere inside of us So I won't say goodbye No, not tonight As long as one light's still burning This village is alive So I won't say goodbye Not yet Until this village sleeps
